Uploading Your Resume to the PSGCNJ Yahoo Group
Originally PSGCNJ was recommended members upload their resume(s) to our Yahoo Group so it would be available for Opportunity Center job-matching purposes and help your networking with PSGCNJ colleagues who might sometimes be able to help you. Although few members do this today, if you'd like to do this the procedure is simple:
- Prepare your resume document file. MS Word .doc format is the
most common, but any type can be uploaded.
- Adobe .pdf (portable document format) and .txt (unformatted text) format are also pretty universally readable.
- The new MS Word 2007 .docx format will not be usable by many people since many (most?) haven’t upgraded to MS Office 2007 yet.
- Before uploading your resume, rename it use this format:
(anything else you want to tag on the end). For example:
123456 SmithJ.doc
123456 Smith.John (Mktg) (9-29-2008).pdf
123456 John Smith.txt
(The last two examples show you can get away with minor variations if you at least prefix the file name with your six digit number and include your name. If you don’t, you might find we’ve had to delete your file because it was too difficult for us to manage unnumbered, unnamed files.) - Go to the PSGCNJ Yahoo Group at http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/psgcnj/
- If the page does not already recognize you, you’ll have to
sign in.
- If the page offers the “Join This Group” button, use the “Sign In” link at the upper-right corner of the page to sign-in with your Yahoo ID and password.
- If someone else’s name appears in the upper-right corner of the page (or whenever using a public shared-use PC), use the “Sign Out” link next to it to sign out, and then sign in after that.
- If it won’t let you sign into the group, double-check that you are signing in using the same Yahoo ID you had used when joining this Yahoo group as described at step #7 of http://psgcnj.org/OnlineDocs/NewMemberChecklist.pdf
- Click into the “Files” item on the left-side menu, and then scroll down the page and click into the “Opportunity Center Committee” folder and from there click on “Resumes” folder.
- Click on the “Add File” link at the top-right of the list of current files.
- Use the “Browse…” button tool to help you find and pick the resume file on your PC for uploading, and then fill in the description field however you’d like (it’ll be displayed under the file name in the resume folder listing). You won’t need to check any of the notification options, so you can then press the “Upload File” button near the bottom of the page. After a brief pause, your file should appear in the Files listing for the Resume folder.
- Repeat steps 6 and 7 for additional files, if you have more than one primary resume version you need to share (e.g., ones targeted to different kinds of jobs).
- That’s it, but remember that if you’re on a shared PC you will want to finish by clicking on the “Sign Out” link at the upper-right corner of the page.
